David Gillieson is a member of RIG and resident of American River. 

He is also a geographer with interests in the scientific exploration of Australia in the early 19th century. He is an Honorary Professor with the School of Geography, University of Melbourne and has held academic appointments at ANU, UNSW and JCU. He is an elected Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (UK) and is a member of the Royal Geographical Society of South Australia.

In writing this account he has drawn on information from the journals of Flinders, Baudin and Freycinet, as well as the writings of J.S. Cumpston, F.H. (Slim) Bauer and Jean Nunn.  It is available for download - please credit the author and RIG's website in any publication.
