Activity in and around the Rebuild the Independence Boathouse
Our community is active throughout the year, not only building the Independence Schooner replica, but also celebrating local events and of course 'Independence Day'.
Please Return to our photo gallery to keep up-to-date with the progress of our build.
Australia Day 2020
On the Australia day holiday in 2020, we held one of our Boat House Bazaar markets. This one was in aid of the bushfire appeal following the tragic bushfires on the island earlier that month.
The boathouse was open as usual and attraccted a number of visitors. Some of the guys decided to have a working session too.
Independence Day Celebrations
We don't make an annual thing of American Independence Day but, mainly when it falls on a weekend, we do put on something to mark the occasion. In 2017, we held a big celebration when, having obtained official permission, we demonstrated flares and rockets as well as providing food and entertainment. And, yes, the authorities did turn up to check we were doing it all right!
Visit the Boathouse
Most days are open days at the RIG Boathouse which is situated at the entrance to American River Wharf on Tangara Drive.
Usually, there is a volunteer guide in residence from about 10:30 - 2:30. If you particularly want to see what is going on, call David on 0403 44 33 23 and we will do our best to ensure that a guide is present when you turn up.
The Deck Cafe
American River's local Wharfside Café alongside the Rebuild Independence Boathouse.
A popular place for visitors and locals to stop for a meal or coffee whilst soaking up the atmosphere of boats sailing past, birdlife and the occasional seal.
Open most of the year from 9:00 to 15:00 - shorter hours off season.
